Digital Transformation
To keep up with the notoriety that its latest significant findings have gained, and in accordance with International Council of Museums’ strategic theme “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”, the Museum recognizes the growing influx of vistors’ demand for the modernization of the way its collection is shared, and thus its obvious digital transformation.
The Museum of Lourinhã produces a great amount of natural and academic knowledge from its work within the areas it covers: Ethnography, Archeology and Paleontology; being worldwide, historically, and scientifically relevant, this wellspring, and of the Museum’s collections, require innovative solutions to ensure its preservation and prosperity where the most advanced technologies definitively play a facilitating and determining role.
CHALLENGE
Being a non-profit organization means having to work on a tight budget, and without a team exclusively dedicated to this endeavor, the Museum needed a low-cost and low-maintenance comprehensive solution.
Infrastructure absence needed to be addressed, as well as the new digital services high demand for connectivity.
In addition to these constraints, the solution would have to ensure a reliable long-term pricing scheme as the financing request could take a long time to return with a viable answer to the Museum’s aspirations.
SOLUTION
A wide set of interactive solutions, running on AWS, is designed to meet the visitors’ current needs and expectations: a mobile application to support the different types of visit the Museum provides, local interactive kiosks to immediately share supplementary content during the visit, storage for multimedia content accessed via QR Codes strategically placed within the Museum compound, and a unique VR experience. Content is wired to make Quicksight analytics available, and the content management service is assured for the whole set via a responsive backoffice.
Leveraging AWS, highlights from our implementation include: rich multimedia contents - like images, videos or documents, hosted in S3 and made available through Cloudfront, and a responsive Backoffice, iOS and Android mobile apps using AWS Amplify to quickly deploy the solution with a Serveless architecture (Lambda, Appsync, DynamoDB) provide the best cost/performance.
